Dave Malloy's Ghost Quartet

"A song cycle about love, death, and whiskey," Ghost Quartet (with original music and lyrics by Dave Malloy) is a piece that is near and dear to our hearts here at House of Usher Productions. We are currently working on our fourth iteration of the piece, a tour across the great state of California this coming fall. We have brought this show from our college campus to a variety of venues- including a wine cave!- and each time we are lucky enough to perform this piece we get to share our work with the most incredible people . We started working on Ghost Quartet in 2017, but the idea of self-producing the show had been brewing for much longer; our own Rebecca and Mark had each been lucky enough to see the original production of the show featuring Dave Malloy, Brittain Ashford, Gelsey Bell, and Brent Arnold.
Presented by 4 musicians, featuring tight vocal harmonies and 24 different instruments in various styles ranging from Jazz, to Folk, to Sondheim;
"A camera breaks and four friends drink in an interwoven tale spanning seven centuries, with a murderous sister, a treehouse astronomer, a bear, a subway, and the ghost of Thelonious Monk."
Ghost Quartet draws inspiration from all over; Malloy (prolific creator of Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812) cites books, poetry, music, video games, episodes of The Twilight Zone- the list is long and varied. Our hope is that audiences feel a part of the journey, the story; that even one moment speaks to some inner longing, loss, or love that they have felt in their own lives. We believe in the universality of the piece as well as its ingenuity and pure artistic credibility.
