Ghost Quartet Testimonials

Joe Romanini

“I was lucky enough to see the original off-Broadway production (as well as the reworked Edinburgh version) of Ghost Quartet, and I can say without a doubt that the UCI production revealed things to me that even the original cast did not. The specificity and care taken by the team at UCI was extraordinary and a treat beyond measure. I have studied Ghost Quartet more than nearly any other theatrical work, and the cast of the UCI production did this incredible show justice in every way. They reminded me of moments I’d forgotten were pivotal and made me fall even more deeply in love with this transformative piece of theatre. Not only did the cast transport me into the vast array of worlds which encompass Ghost Quartet, they made me feel as if I were a part of their journey. I was influencing them. This openness was refreshing and made the incredible work that Ghost Quartet is shine so very brightly (even in the literal darkness of Side 3).

“This production of Ghost Quartet is an absolutely unique experience - part concert, part play, and part mysterious poem. It deals with dark and haunting themes while engaging the audience in a way I have never experienced; literally bringing us into the performance while still preening the mystery.” -

“Ghost Quartet at UC Irvine was one of the coolest, most immersive pieces of theatre I’ve ever experienced. This show did not feel like a typical college production at all. The quality of performance was outstanding... The passion and love for the theatre the Quartet worked to create reverberated throughout the entire space, you could not help but be moved. Everything about this show is so smart and what the Quartet did with it was that and then some. It was truly a remarkable show I wish I could have experienced over and over and over again.”

“Weeks after seeing this production of Ghost Quartet, I am still left completely in awe of how incredible it was. It is evident that a great deal of time and effort was spent putting this show together and it most certainly paid off. The vocal and instrumental performances were absolutely incredible and although this particular production was purely student-produced, I felt as if I were at a professional show. Even with half an hour of the show in complete darkness, the performers never skipped a beat and were in sync the entire time. Each of the performers were cast perfectly in their roles and brought so much of themselves to their performances that it almost seemed as if the show was written for them specifically. The cast was so welcoming and inviting, which made the audience-participation element of the show all the more fun. While the story is a bit difficult to follow, the cast provided a dramaturgical table for audience members to look at as they entered which helped immensely; but even so, the show was so wildly entertaining that I did not care if I was ever confused with a minor plot detail. I was only able to see this production once, but I wish I had gotten another opportunity to see it as I am still thinking about how amazing and fun it was."
